Pastor Tyrone Hayes, Sr. Servant of God / A Friend to God’s People Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” Psalms 51:10-12 “Who would think I would spend all day in church?” “There are not enough hours in the day to study God’s Word.” These were sayings of Pastor Hayes which were stated by him frequently. God’s gift of salvation and to be called to be preach God’s Word was awesome to Pastor Hayes. His interest did not lie in how you spoke or dressed but in your service to God. He was an advocate for education, but if you were more interested in your degrees, accomplishments and agendas rather than God’s plan and purpose for you, your accomplishments were meaningless. We were created to serve God with every talent and gift given by Him. Pastor Hayes loved learning, teaching and studying the Word of God. It was foremost with him to teach that all may understand God’s Word and apply to their daily living. He always made time to talk with understanding to whomever. His love for the Word was evident in his love for his family, his church family and for those seeking God. He could not stress enough the importance of knowing and having a personal relationship with God for yourself. He was excited about teaching to the point of urgency. He preached and teached God’s Word every single day, twice on Sunday, without fail for a year. He was determined to give all God had given him. Even during illness, he was sending scripture to New Mount Zion members to study and to meditate. There was even a ministry in the hospital and rehabilitation for him to teach, preach and pray for doctors, their patients, nurses and their families. He was not taking what God gave him lightly. He was a Servant of God no matter where he was. Throughout his neighborhood, driving through the city and even on the trips to various places with the church, Pastor was greeting people unknown to him with God’s Word. He was extremely serious about teaching with understanding and did not mind going over and over and over the Word until you receive what God had for you to apply to your life. Pastor ruled God’s House according to God’s Word. He prayed about everything and waited for God to answer. He always wanted God’s order. He taught the congregation to do the same for their homes. This was vital to him as God’s servant, and he relied totally on God’s approval. Even with COVID, Pastor’s interest was what God wanted for the church He gave him to pastor. He was committed to New Mount Zion and most importantly to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If you are talking with him, his bible is with him for he believed the answers are in God’s Word. Pastor Tyrone Hayes, Sr. was a simple preacher, teacher, pastor and family man who praised and worshipped God with all his strength given by God. He was a faithful servant unto death. To God be the glory! He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Darlene Hayes; his daughter and son in-law, Alexandria and Andre Walker; his son, Tyrone Hayes, Jr.; his grandchildren, Isabella and Andre, Jr.; his siblings, Tommy, Leonard, Darlene, Tim and Diana; nieces, nephews; and the New Mount Zion Church Family.
