Alfonso Hayman

November 2, 1948 — May 24, 2025

Philadelphia

Alfonso "Fonnie" Hayman, a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, colleague, and friend, passed away on May 24, 2025. He was born to the late Clarence and Edith Hayman on November 2, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Alfonso was educated in the Philadelphia school system, and despite the challenges of segregation, he lived a full life defined by strength, service, humility, and a deep, unwavering love for his family.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Alfonso served his country with honor as an 82nd Airborne and was later honorably discharged. His discipline and determination carried over to a notable career as a professional boxer, where he earned widespread respect.
During his career, he was a Welterweight Champion of North America, receiving numerous awards for his accomplishments. In 2017, he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport.
Alfonso was also a proud and long-time "A Member" of Lincoln Post
89. A man of many talents, he had a creative spirit along with his gifted pair of hands. He found joy in music, photography, and taking things apart—then "trying" to put them back together. His playful curiosity and passion for learning brought light to those around him.
Alfonso was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Hayman; his parents, Clarence and Edith Hayman; his sons, Jamal Hayman and Michael (Mike) Mungin; his brothers, Clarence Hayman and Nelson Hayman; and his nephew, Clarence Hayman, Jr.
Alfonso, "Fonnie," as he was affectionately known, deeply loved and adored his family. He is survived by his son, Lamont Hayman; his two cherished grandchildren, Qadirah Hellams and Jamal Hellams; his sister, Maxine Hayman; and his dear last living aunt, Laura Hayman-Thomas (Aunt Abbie). He also leaves behind three nephews: Nephews: Felton, aka Butter Felton (Kimberly Hayman); Hakim, and Edres; Nieces:
Marcia, Melissa, Kim, Annette, Yamina, Adar, Lynn, Tracy, Cathy, Michelle, and Keisha, a special friend Andrea, a special cousin, Carlos Stokes, -along with a host great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
"Fonnie"
you will be deeply missed and forever remembered
