My Message Very peacefully at 12:11 pm on Friday, October 31, 2025 Almighty God, in his wisdom, mercy and grace closed the eyes of our beloved mother, Barbara Joyce James and she entered into his kingdom.
On August 8, 1936, I came into the world of Herbert James Cook and Rose Mae Cook of Philadelphia, PA becoming the eldest sister of two brothers who preceded me in death and two sisters.
I received my formal education in the Catholic and Public school system, graduating from West Philadelphia High School.
In 1957 I married the love of my life, David James who preceded me in death. From this union two children were born.
I found Christ early in life and was a faithful member of White Rock Baptist Church. I joined the Adult Usher Board and was assigned to the Sheepfold of Abraham / Joseph.
In 1973 I started working at the Pennsylvania Institute in Environmental Service. I worked at the Institute for thirty-six years and retired in the summer of 1996.
I was the ultimate matriarch of the family providing, guidance, love support and wisdom. I took pride in cooking, frying fish with grits, smoothing down pork chops in gravy and having a great time with family and friends. I enjoyed trips to the casinos, dancing, doing the South Philly bop also enjoyed shopping for shoes and clothes with my two sisters
Cherishing memories will be my children - Donna James Edwards (Dennis), Stacie L. James (Andre'), sisters - Delores Alston ( David) LaVern Gadson (John) grandchildren - Kendra Salazar, DeNaire Mouton (Brian), great grandchildren - Ariel, Dominic, Izabella Rose, Brian, Soleil. My very best childhood friend Stella B. Timmons. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews. My adopted children-Cookie, Valerie, Keith, Donna, David, Angie, Valerie, Tonya, Chandra & Teddy.
