November 28, 1947 — April 20, 2025

Philadelphia

Bernadette Gatewood-Hudson Affectionately know as Bernie was born November 28,1947 in Philadelphia to the late Howard Rogers and Flora Horne.Bernie, as she was affectionately known attended and graduated from John Bartram High School in Philadelphia. As a young adult bernie enjoyed spending time with close family and friends. Bernie obtained several sources of employment but here most memorable reflect with her working for the Lankenau Hospital she was a food prep, in the dietary department. She then elevated and was promoted to the roll of a data entry clerk for several years. After leaving Lankenau she began employment at the RCA electronics plant in Camden New Jersey. Bernie worked for RCA for many years and was enthused with the promotion which allowed her to purchase her first vehicle which was a Isuzu Imark which she called (shaud'e). Bernie took pride in her accomplishment and when she wasn't at work on any given Sunday, she could always be found praising GOD at the Deliverance Evangelistic Church which was located on Broad and Wyoming street under the tutelage of the late Pastor Benjamin Smith where she fell in love with Christ. She was a sound member who was always early for Friday night prayer and Sunday worship, and afterwards she was guaranteed to bring home that good ole Kentucky Fried Chicken for Sunday dinner. Bernie was not alone in these accomplishments and endeavors she shared this life journey with the late Ronald E. Hudson whom she joined d in Holy Matrimony April 11th of 1981. From this union were born two boys Shawn R. Gatewood and Darrel M. Gatewood whom she loved dearly. Bernie along with several members of the family such as Ronald Hudson, Melvin Hudson, Richard Templeman, Bill Mitchell and a host of other family and friends all worked for the RCA plant so as you can see the RCA plant was more than a job for the HUDSON'S it was a family affair. After her employment with RCA Bernie took ill and became a home maker who made her self busy ensuring that her husband and children had everything they needed for the start of the day. If you had a chance to know Bernie you loved Bernie her smile was immense and her presence would electrify any room she entered. Bernie was preceded in death by Ronald E. Hudson whom through the good and bad times she loved dearly.Bernie leaves to cherish her memory: Her children Shawn Gatewood and Darrel Gatewood: One Grandson Daryl Gatewood Jr, One daughter in law Immanuel Gatewood two great grandchildren Hudson Gatewood and Halo Gatewood and a host of family and friends.
