Brenda Moore

d. December 8, 2024

Brenda Joyce Moore was born on August 20th, 1948, to the parents of Dorothy Barnes and Roland Johnson in Philadelphia, PA. Brenda departed this life unexpectedly on Sunday, December 8th, 2024. Brenda married Preston Henley Moore, and to this union, two children were born: Preston Brenda Joyce Moore and Edith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Stanley Moore; her grandmother, Edith Bush; her grandson, Larry T. Dempsey Jr.; and two very special best friends, Linda and Mary. Brenda was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and proudly grew up in South Philly. Brenda had a very ambitious spirit and a great work ethic. In her early years, she worked at the Philadelphia School District as a lunch aide. She later went on to work for Aramark at Veterans Stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park, and the University of Pennsylvania College. She was dedicated to being of service and volunteered at several places with an unforgettable work ethic. Brenda had a love for dancing, music, cabarets, concerts, crab feasts, card games, and casinos. She enjoyed shopping at Tower Records, the Italian Market down 9th Street, and she cooked a mean soul food dinner. She cooked every holiday and made sure that everyone enjoyed it. She had a hustler spirit-she sold soul food platters and enjoyed feeding the entire community. She put her foot in every meal and was proud to say that no one cooked better than her. She was a "jazzy lady." She loved to get dressed, get her nails done, and buy wigs. One of her favorite stores was "The Dump" in South Philadelphia, and her favorite dance was "The Bop." She often requested "Jam Tonight" at every event and got up and danced to it, even up until her last days. Brenda was very family-oriented. At an early age, she took several of her grandchildren and helped raise them proudly. Her life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She put her all into making sure they wanted for nothing-she never missed any milestones in our lives, even when she became ill. She was a pure soul and helped whoever needed it. But, she was a straight shooter and would tell you like it is in a heartbeat. She will be deeply missed by all. Brenda leaves to mourn: 2 children, Missy and Preston; 1 daughter-in-law, Sheila; 9 grandchildren: Yuylanne, Erica, Larry, Brenda, Aziz, Caprice, Mason, Booda, and Kwameea; 11 great-grandchildren: Sa'myr, Ma'kih, Hadir, I'yah, A'ziyah, Ming, Jah'syi, Zion, Jaylyn, Safiyy, Muhsin, Cousin Rosie, Michelle, Robert, and Christian; a special friend, Yvonne; and a host of relatives and friends.
