Dudley Coates lovingly known as Dud and pop was born on June 29th, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Dorothy Coates and Douglas Cryor. He knew and loved the lord all his life. In the early afternoon of August 6th,2022, Surrounded by loved ones, Dudley received his wings.
Dudley was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. He grew up in South Philadelphia where he met and married the love of his life, Sharon Coates. From their union, two beautiful children were born. Darnell and Ebony. He was an amazing father, grandfather and husband who would stop at nothing to make sure his family had everything. Dudley was a dedicated worker to say the least who held down several jobs ranging from Warehouse worker, ABM Supervisor, then lastly an employee of the city of Philadelphia where he eventually retired, Dudley was a beautiful and extraordinary man who showed love and compassion to everyone. Whether it was a listening ear, kind gesture, or a piece of advice. You could always sense he cared. He had an infectious smile that would light up a room. You could always count on him for jokes, laughs, and smiles. He made ever day an exceptional one. Dudley had a way about him that was one of a kind. Always willing to open his doors for those in need, he was the go-to person that everyone could depend on.
His greatest past time was watching westerns, playing cards with friends and family, and listening to his old school music, such as James Brown, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and his lovely Janet Jackson. Not to mention watching General Hospital which everyone knew not to ring his phone while the show was on, He found enjoyment in trips to the casino and playing the lottery.
Dudley was preceded in death by the love of his life Sharon Coates and his dear son Darnell Coates Dudley leaves to mourn and cherish his memories his daughter Ebony, Four grandchildren: Amir, Antoine, Cashmir, and Jamyiah, Five great grandchildren: Aubree, Amir Jr., Sa’laya, Avery and Ayden. Two brothers, Richard, and Paul Coates, one sister, Juanita Wright, and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, and dear friends. Sorrowfully Submitted by the Family.
