Elaine Rosetta Lewis was born September 28, 1939, in Phila, Pennsylvania to the late Preston & Lottie Scott.
Lainey or Tootsie, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends. Lainey was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and a proud graduate of Overbrook High School. Elaine was a hard worker and took pride in her position for 39 years as Court Clerk for the judges of The City of Philadelphia Traffic Court from 1957 until she retired in 1996.
Elaine married William Lewis in 1966 (predeceased). She later met the love of her life Jerome Howard, Jr. (predeceased). Elaine accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age.
Lainey loved her family and her extended family. Even though she was the youngest she was very protective of her sister, Delores and brother, Preston (predeceased). She found pleasure in spoiling all the children in her family and extended family. One thing you could count on how proud she was of their accomplishments whether it was Pre-K, Kindergarten, High School or College or any major accomplishment she would make sure she was present and smiling hard. Lainey made sure one thing was known and clearly understood "I am a South Philly girl".
Elaine loved to travel just know it was by the quickest means available from her trips to Spain, Jamaica, cruises to her favorite spot Las Vegas. When it was time to be picked up, she was ready and when it was her time to leave, she was ready. She enjoyed traveling with her friends, playing cards, BINGO and her spot the Casino. She loved watching sports, especially the Sixers, her game shows and Jerry Springer.
Lainey was as woman about her business and she had no problem letting you know that. She meant what she said and said what she meant her vocabulary was very favorable. She did it her way.
She not only found pleasure in her family, but her love extended beyond just family to many generations. She was a mother, grandmother, nana, auntie to so many and the deputized Block Captain of Sigel Street. Lainey's house was a safe place for many generations of family and friends.
