Eleanor Kendricks

d. December 8, 2022

Eleanor Paulette Kendricks was born October 7, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Henry  Lewis and Juanita Balkman. A discerning woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. On Thursday, December 8, 2022, Eleanor entered her eternal resting place at home in Franklinville, NJ with her beloved husband Harvey Jr. by her side after a long-time battle with Scleroderma.

Eleanor grew up in  south Philadelphia with her formal education in the Philadelphia Public School System, graduating from Bok Vocational High School in 1963. After graduating Eleanor worked as a sales clerk at Five & Dime store on Point Breeze Avenue in South Philadelphia. This is where Harvey and Eleanor after Harvey inquired about “the girl with the red hair”. She had great skills in office management and utilized these skills as an Executive Assistant within Hahnemann Hospital and a medical transcriber for the Veterans Administration up until her early retirement. Eleanor also cherished her time as a homemaker.

On February 20, 1965, Eleanor married Harvey L. Kendricks Jr., the love of her life and devoted husband. From this Union, two beautiful children were born, Brian and Kimberly. Eleanor was a caring mother who always shared her time and talents as a volunteer within her children’s school, chaperoning hers and other youth during field trips and being an avid sports mom during Brian and Kim's football and basketball games. She was always and in all ways a cheerleader at heart providing an encouraging word through phone calls or a greeting card.

Eleanor was quiet and reserved, rarely raising her voice or using profanity unless she was watching her beloved Philadelphia Eagles. It’s when the Eagles were on television you could hear her yelling, screaming, and cursing; consistently routing for her home team. She never missed a game and always  wrote down the score. A reserved soul who fought the good fight loved life and was devoted to her loving mother Juanita “Sis”. The two were often mistaken for sisters. Friends who became family were cherished as Harvey and Eleanor were members of “The Extended Family” for over twenty years.

Eleanor will always be cherished and remain in the hearts of her husband of fifty-seven years, Harvey Jr.; son, Brian and Daughter, Kimberly; her grandchildren, Malik, Chelsea, Kailyn, Kacey, Keri, and Kori; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ava, Anderson, and Parker as well as a host of other family members and friends.
