Gloria Mae McCants was born on June 3rd, 1936, to the late Clark and Hazel Grant in Columbus, Georgia.
On Sunday, September 14, 2025, she peacefully fell asleep in death.
Gloria was educated in the Radcliff school system in Columbus, Georgia. She later moved to Philadelphia Pa. where she built her life and family with her husband, the late Herman McCants and from that union they raised their only child, their daughter Vickie Copeland, whom she loved and was devoted to dearly.
Gloria had a special love for children. In the 1990s, she opened a daycare in her home, where she lovingly cared for little ones until the early 2000s. She was the neighborhood grandmother to where many called her “G” or “GG”. Gloria was a social and joyful person. She enjoyed spending time at the Mercy Life Center, traveling—especially on cruises—playing Pinochle, and going out to dinner with family and friends.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Gloria worshipped Jehovah wholeheartedly. She drew strength and comfort from the Scriptures, with special fondness for Matthew 28:19-20 and Proverbs 3:5-6. She loved to share her faith and had a gift for making people smile. Gloria found great joy, love, and happiness in being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, drawing strength from her faith and the peace it brings.
Gloria deeply loved her family, and she shared a special relationship with her grandson Jacob, who was both a loving companion and caregiver.
Gloria leaves behind her daughter, Vickie Copeland; her grandchildren, Jacob L. Copeland (Monique), Alex Fernandez Jr., and Jacqueline Copeland; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; Sibling: Mary Henderson, Loretta Hood(Melvin Hood) and Charles also known as Wadi-Sabree and 6 siblings who preceded her in death. Special friends Jeanette Williams, Carol Selby, and Minnelee Downs; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also was preceded in death by her dear best friend Delores Salley.
Gloria’s warmth, generosity, and strong faith touched the lives of many. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
