Philadelphia

Our Hearts are heavily burdened to announce the untimely passing of Marie J. Thornton on September 23, 2025. Marie Joan Allen was born on May 28th 1953 to Clarence Jones and Mary Allen in the City of Philadelphia.

At the age of four while residing on the 1500 block of Lambert street Marie affectionately known as Ree Ree befriended three lifelong friends Diane ,Teresa, and Linda. Upon reaching adolescence Marie became one of the original members of the Lamberinos and the G.T.O Girls Taking Over Social Club. Their signature style of dress was the Navy blue wet look mini dress with red stitching throughout, complemented with dress shoes. Marie motto was “Girls wear shoes”. Ree Ree was always well dressed and was considered the one that kept a steady cash flow, as her father spoiled his daughter.

During the early era of her youth Marie received her education in the Philadelphia Public School System. Marie later met and married Reginald La Barre Thornton, whom she’d known most of her life. Derived from their loving union three daughters were born. While being a homemaker Marie decided to attend cashier school and worked in the Hotel hospitality industry.

A Daughter, Sister Aunt, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Great Great grandmother and a loyal friend to many that come to know and love her. Marie was fearless at heart, a protector of all whom she loved and cared about, kind heated by nature and rambunctiously feisty frequently speaking the adlibs of a cussing sailor.

Marie was given the nickname “Boom” by her oldest sister Clarissa due to her blatant unpredictability. Boom was known to be a rebel with an rebellious spirit. When it came to standing on business, everyone knew that she had no problem giving them a piece of what was referred to as “The Sandwich” If you know you know!

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Clarissa and her brother Edward.

Her legacy lives on with her daughters: Tonya, Priscilla and Nicole. Her nephew Walter whom she raised as her own son.
