On January 12, 1968 in Philadelphia, PA a beautiful blessing, Lisa Charmaine Hooks Brown was introduced to the world, thanks to Sarah and Fred Hooks.
As the middle child, Lisa would have her work cut out for her. Lisa was very quiet and observant. She was quite the opposite of her very outspoken siblings, Crystal, Dougie (RIP), Keisha, Freddie and Faye. It wouldn't be until she reached her late teens that she came into her own as a vocal woman, keen on protecting and doing what was morally right.
Lisa spent her early childhood developmental years at George W. Nibenger Elementary School. As a teen, she attended South Philadelphia High School. Lisa was a woman all about commitment. And it was evident by her 30+ years of employment at Bellevue Hotel (Hyatt).
In 1985 she met Rodney Stanford. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Nashay. It would be through her brother-in-law, Anthony Coaxum/match-maker, that she was introduced to her current husband, Gregory Brown. For her the connection was almost instant and lasted until her untimely death.
Lisa joined the church community in her 50's, alongside other family members. She dedicated her life to God and followed a Christian way of living. She was an active member of The Rising Sun Baptist Church. They say, "it's never about what they call you, but what you answer to" and Lisa responded to Big Dog, Lee Lee or Aunt Lisa quite often. Lisa had a huge heart and much like her home, it was always OPEN to anyone that needed either. It was a safe space for friends and family. Lisa was a lovely, loving person and NO stranger to generosity.
Lisa WORSHIPPED her grandchildren. She took so much PRIDE in nurturing them, placing a special emphasis on teaching them 'manners and morals'. she was an advocate for education and constantly told them 'education' will take you far in life!
Lisa knew life was all about taking risk. she was a gambler. She loved cash and the casinos! she loved to see the world with her family!
Lisa leaves to cherish her memory; her only daughter, Nashay Hooks; three grandchildren, Makei, Willie and Willow; three sisters, Crystal coaxum (Anthony Coaxum), Narda Thompson and Faye Thompson; one brother, Fredderick Hooks; one sister-in-law, Portia Poole (Charles Poole, Sr.); two brothers-in-law, Frank Brown and Rodney Brown. She had a plethora of nieces and nephews, Anthony Jr., Sheena, Angelo, Ahkeya, Reggie, ashane, LaQuan, Shanice, Zahkeya, Dylan, Jennifer, Kenna and Kierra; along with one nephew whom she ADORED like she birthed him herself, Antonie. She even had a special name for him, "Nephson".
Lisa also had a host of aunts, uncles, great nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved so much, that brought joy to her life.
