"Scoe: Keith G Johnson

September 19, 1951 — February 1, 2026

Philadelphia

Keith Johnson was born on September 19, 1951, in South Philadelphia, to Dorothy Johnson and Mr. Yancy. Affectionately known as "Scoe" to most he was a true South Philly original. Keith carried the heart, hustle, and style of his neighborhood everywhere he went. He departed this life on February 1, 2026 sharing a powerful connection with the date of his mother's passing, February 1, 1963. The youngest of five children, following the passing of his mother Keith was raised by his sister Barbara and grew up alongside his nieces and nephews, who were more like brothers and sisters than anything else. A product of the Philadelphia Public School System, Keith was shaped by the streets, the people, and the culture of South Philly. He lived a full life, many lives. One of his proudest identities was that of a Philadelphia cowboy. Keith rode horses with his friends, part of the legendary community of Black cowboys right in this city. What many people never knew existed became history when their story was told in the film Concrete Cowboy. For Keith, it wasn't a movie, it was real life, real brotherhood, and real pride. Keith was a hustler in the best sense of the word. A natural entrepreneur, he owned and ran multiple businesses and always found a way to make something happen. He was also one of the greatest storytellers you'd ever meet, able to make a story up on the fly, have a whole room crying laughing, and leave people repeating it for years. If Keith was there, the vibe was right.Known throughout South Philly and beyond as a sharp dresser, Keith's style was unmatched. He loved looking good, living well, and enjoying the finer things in life. Keith leaves behind his children: Antoinette, Keenan, Theo, Prince, Janelle, and Jamar, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends who will forever carry his spirit with them.He was preceded in death by ; his wife Cynthia: his parents; his sisters Barbara, and Phylis and brothers Clarence and Howard; his sons Kareem and Nahyer; and his grandchildren Ashley and Nahyer.Keith Johnson was South Philly through and through bold, stylish, resilient, and unforgettable. His family was truly blessed to have him, and his stories, laughter, and legacy will live on in the neighborhoods, the memories, and the hearts of everyone who knew him.
