Veronica Ragins

August 2, 1958 — February 16, 2024

Philadelphia

We're saddened to share the news that Veronica "Ronnie" Ragins, a truly special woman, passed away on February 16, 2024. Born on August 2, 1958, to Jean and Edward Ragins, Ronnie had a knack for cutting through nonsense with her wisdom and straight talk. She wasn't one for traditional schooling, but she was smarter and wiser than most.

Her generosity extended not just to her family but also to her neighbors and the broader community. Ronnie felt a strong sense of responsibility to guide young men in her community, advising them on the importance of financial wisdom and self-respect.

Whether through her time, advice, or the yearly BBQs she loved to throw, she ensured everyone around her felt welcome.

A stylish woman, she carried herself with a unique flair that was all her own, always "showing out" whenever she stepped out. She lived her life fully and joyously, regardless of others opinions.

Despite living in various parts of the city of Philadelphia, her soul was tethered to South Philly. She always found her way back to her old stomping grounds to reconnect with friends. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of truly knowing her.

She had a laugh that could fill a room and a sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes. She didn't just talk about change; she was active in politics, standing alongside big names like former Philadelphia Mayor John Street, pushing for real change in her community.

Her faith was important to her, contributing to The Bible Network and other Christian platforms.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her daughters, Sherita Ragins and Shakeeta Ragins; her grandchildren: Shamir Harris, Nevaeha Ragins, Mikayla Howze, and Meira Howze; sister, Regina Porter; nieces, Latasha Ragins and Turquoise Porter; and nephews, Claude and Devante Porter.

As we remember Ronnie, let's celebrate the way she lived: with generosity, being true to herself, and a love for her family and friends, whether they were right next door or miles away.

She has left a permanent mark on all who knew her, inspiring us to live with authenticity and purpose.
